Day Four: Your Favorite Book

My favorite book is When Crickets Cry by Charles Martin .

A couple of weekends ago I was able to get a girls night out with a girlfriend from church.  We checked in at PF Changs and was given an hour wait for a table, so we decided to cross the street and enjoy Barnes and Nobles.  I wasn’t looking for any type of book in particular, but was ready to venture away from the popular series rut I had found myself reading lately.  While I enjoyed the Twilight and Hunger Games series I was looking for a change of pace.  I found myself perusing the Christian Fiction section.  I had settled on a certain book when the title of “When Crickets Cry” caught my eye.  The book’s summer was intriguing , however it was the author’s biography that got me the most interested.  It stated “Charles Martin and his wife, Christy live a stone’s throw from the St. John’s River in Jacksonville, FL.” This moved me to decide this was the book the I wanted to buy.  I am a big fan of supporting local business and knowing he was a local author made me want to support him.  I just finished reading this book over Memorial  weekend and it quickly became my favorite book.  He is an eloquent and detailed writer.  I flipping pages quickly and with zeal to see what was coming next.  I laughed out loud and cried several times throughout the book.  I am looking forward to picking up more of his books in the near future.

***UPDATE*** This post was originally posted on June 4th, 2011.  Since then I have read Where The River Ends by Charles Martin.  It was amazing too!  He is a heartfelt author who really paints beautiful scenery with his words.  I would certainly recommend him to anyone looking for something different to read from the mainstream of popular authors.
