Summer Reading: Week One

Last week Moscato Mom suggested that I join the Random House Kids Read & Play Summer Fun with her! I took a look at the community and knew that it was one that I wanted to join on The Blog Frog.  I joined the live  discussion on June 30th to talk about summer reading and our favorite Random House Books.  It was a great time and I was able to connect with lots of new bloggers.

I decided that I would become committed to taking the boys to the library once a week during the summer.  I had already implemented summer reading with the boys, but I thought that taking them to the library would add a bit of excitement. This past Saturday we ventured out to the library and brought home 23 books!  My arms hurt after lugging them back to the car.  I have made a mental note to return to the library with a bag big enough to haul the books home.

After reading all the picture books, I asked the boys to pick their favorite one for me to share.  Each week, as we are on summer break, I will share with you their favorite book of the week.  Follow along with me weekly as we discover books we haven’t read yet.  Perhaps you will find something that you haven’t read to your children and can share with them this summer.

Tyler’s favorite book of the week was Dino-Soccer by Lisa Wheeler and illustrated by Barry Gott.  He enjoyed the cartoony illustrations of the dinosaurs and how the story line consisted of an entire soccer game.  As I was reading the book to him he kept asking “Who’s going to win mama?”

Trever’s favorite book of the week was The Dumb Bunnies by Sue Denim and illustrated by Dav Pilkey.  He enjoyed the silly story a lot.  The story line is a satire based on the classic story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears.  He giggled often as he read it to his brother. He made certain to show Tyler the silly illustrations as well.

It was great to spend time with the boys reading to them and also being read to by Trever.  I look forward to our next trip to the library.
