Weird Animals VBS

Our Vacation Bible school theme this year was Weird Animals from Group. The resounding lesson for Weird Animals VBS is that God loves you no matter if you’re weird. In fact a synonym for weird is fantastic! The Lord made us all fantastic in his image.

This is my third summer decorating for vacation Bible school at Grace Lutheran. My girlfriend, Ann, and I accomplished this task together. We brainstormed and decided to do a rain forest in the narthex.

To create this look we used bulletin board paper along the bottom of the wall. We then cut the top of the paper about 3 inches to make the fringe.Weird Animals VBS decor

Then we adhered previously cut fern leaves to the wall behind the fringe grass. We cut spirals out of pool noodles to create a 3-D effect with the grass. The flowers, butterflies, geckos, and such on were cut from scrapbook paper my cricuit machine.Weird Animals VBS decor

We attached green table cloths to the ceiling with push pins. The waterfall and tree were created with bulletin board paper and Royal blue door fringe.Weird Animals VBS decor

The character Fern from Weird Animals VBS lives in the ocean, so we thought it would tie in perfect to create an under water themed area. We selected the entrance to the family life center to decorate this way.

Another member of the church, Julie Ann and her mother Carmen, decorated the sanctuary.  Weird Animals VBS They did a great job incorporating the decor you can purchase from Group and creating their own.  Overall our vacation bible school was decorated beautifully and the children enjoyed themselves immensely. They learned that no matter who they are or the situation, Jesus loves them.  That my friends is the most important lesson of them all!

Of course we didn’t come up with these decorating ideas all on our own!  Pinterest was a huge help to our planning of how best to decorate. Click on over to see our inspiration!
